National No Draft No Way! CONFERENCE

on Youth and Resistance 

On Sunday, April 16, veterans, youth, parents, and activists gathered for the first No Draft No Way Conference in Manhattan.

On April 16, more than a hundred anti-draft activists from throughout the Northeast gathered for a strategic conference in Manhattan.

The conference focused on three areas of work:

1) Opposing the coming draft

2) Fighting the economic draft (counter recruiting)

3) Supporting resistance in the ranks

Conference participants called for a campaign to challenge militarism on every front, including:

1) Declaring our schools and neighborhoods "Military-Free Zones," driving out military recruiters, shutting down ROTC programs and educating parents and students about the "Opt Out" option to keep their private information from being given to the military.

2) Launching a national "I Refuse" Campaign to gather 100,000 signatures from potential draftees who affirm that they will refuse to be inducted into the military to fight in an illegal war.

3) Publishing the No Draft, No Way Guide to the Draft and Draft Resistance, which will be distributed to tens of thousands of students, youth, parents, clergy, and anti-draft activists.

People who oppose the implementation of the draft need to act now to stop it. We cannot rely on politicians; we must be a massive grass-roots movement to say "No Draft! No Way!"

We need to begin now to build this movement. Here are some ways to begin:

• Become a NoDraftNoWay.org organizer in your area.
• Organize a local anti-draft group in your community.
• Download the NoDraftNoWay literature and begin to get the word out in your school, union, place of worship, and workplace.
• Expose the "Economic Draft" already in place by providing counter-recruiting information to young people and organizing demonstrations outside recruiting centers.
• Organize local demonstrations at the site of your local Selective Service office.
• Write letters to members of Congress and the local media expressing opposition to the draft.
• Donate to help us get the word out.
